Percentages

ActiCalc uses percentages in two different modes.

In this example, we type 199.95, then press the enter key.  Without pressing any operator, we type 25%.  In this case, ActiCalc automatically turns this into a multiplication operation, giving us a new balance that is 25% of 199.95.

The second mode adds or subtracts a percent from the previous balance.  In this example, we type 199.95-25%. ActiCalc converts this into a slightly more complicated sequence on the tape.  In row 1, the first balance is entered.  ActiCalc computes 25% of that balance in row 2.  Finally, in row 3, ActiCalc builds an active reference to deduct the 25% amount from the original balance.  This all happens automatically when you enter those few keystrokes.  Of course, you could have built this same 3-row sequence yourself, but it would have required more keystrokes.  This second mode is particularly useful when calculating discounts or bonuses.
