Precision Control

ActiCalc allows you to set precision used to display entries and balances in the IntelliTape.  All values are stored internally as high-precision floating point numbers.  This control affects only the display.

For simplicity, ActiCalc uses a single precision for the entire tape.  The precision you select is saved with the tape file and automatically takes effect when the file is opened in the future.

You select the precision by choosing the desired look from the pull-down menu on the toolbar.   Float is the most flexible setting.  When you select float, ActiCalc will display only as many digits as necessary.  With the other values, ActiCalc limits the precision to the number of decimal digits selected.

When you select a specific number of decimal digits, ActiCalc rounds the displayed numbers to the selected precision.  ActiCalc may display fewer decimals if they would be zero.  There is an exception to this rule.  If you select a number of decimal digits that matches your Windows currency setting, then ActiCalc will display exactly that many decimal digits.  For example, if your Windows system is configured to use dollars and you select an ActiCalc precision of 9.99, then ActiCalc will always display exactly 2 decimal digits, even if they are zero.

When you shut down ActiCalc, it saves the current precision choice and automatically restores this setting the next time you start ActiCalc.
